The reaction of lignin with formaldehyde

Abstract: Both qual. and quant. reactions of lignin with formaldehyde have been revised. HCHO reacts with the side chain of lignin and various types of lignin can be differentiated. Sulfite lignin and ethanol lignin show best reactions. The reaction appears to be of the aldol type.
