Conditions for oxygen absorption by alkali metals in liquid ammonia under normal pressure

Abstract: Peroxides of alkali metals were prepd. by blowing O through solns. of Na or K in liquid NH3 below -77°. Side reactions, such as the formation of amide, hydroxide, and nitride, come from traces of moisture in the liquid NH3. Low yields of peroxides in impure form were obtained.
