Abstract:

Chitosan, chitosan nanoparticles, chitosan nanoparticles n-benzaldehyde Schiff base, and Fe(III) chitosan nanoparticles n-benzaldehyde Schiff base were produced and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffractogram. Fe(III) chitosan nanoparticles n-benzaldehyde Schiff base was biologically evaluated for biomedical application as antimicrobial agent with three gram-positive bacteria: Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, and Staphylococcus aureus, two gram-negative bacteria: Semolina and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and two fungi: Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger, the activities of Fe(III) chitosan nanoparticles n-benzaldehyde Schiff base were compared with standard drugs. The FTIR spectroscopy results confirm the formation of all the prepared materials. The XRD patterns confirm the crystallinity nature of chitosan and change in crystallinity of chitosan derivatives. The antimicrobial activity of Fe(III) chitosan nanoparticles Schiff base against bacteria and fungi tested showed that the material is a good antimicrobial agent.
