Laboratory preparation of trimethylvinylsilane

Abstract: The effect of some reaction conditions on the yield of Wurtz synthesis of trimethylvinylsilane (I) by Na condensation (Kanazashi, CA 49, 11578e) is described. By applying statistical data of latin squares and graphical data, optimum reaction conditions based on 1 mole I are given: equimolar ratio of Me₃SiCl to CH₂:CHCl to Na, 200 cc. ether, the speed of flow of vinyl chloride 16-20 g./hr. Yield was increased up to 80.0% and 82.1% compared with 77.5 reported by Kanazashi.
