Abstract: Titrimetric determination of oxidative properties of pure barium titanate specimens and of crystals containing nickel and cobalt, after annealing the crystals in oxygen atmosphere, is described. The procedure is as follows: the specimens are dissolved in concentrated phosphoric acid, iron(II) salt in the form of a phosphate is added, its excess is retitrated with permanganate, using ferroin as indicator. The oxidative properties of pure barium titanate samples annealed at 900°C in oxygen may be explained on the basis of infra-red spectra by the formation of peroxides in these samples. In samples containing cobalt, its quantitative oxidation to cobalt(III) was proved and a method for its determination, apart from peroxidic bonds, was suggested. Under similar conditions, in crystals containing nickel, only nonquantitative oxidation of nickel was found.
