Abstract: Osmometric measurements prove that I in HI as well as I- form hydrates with 3 mols. H2O, Br in CH3CHBrCOOH, and Br- with 2 mols. H2O, and Cl in CH2ClCOOH with 1 mol. H2O. No hydration of Cl- was detected. SO42- and NO3- hydrate with 2 mols. H2O, which indicates, according to the authors, the validity of the classical formulas O-.sbd.N .dbd.O N.dbd.O, S.dbd.O S.dbd.O S.sbd.O- S.sbd.O- contrary to the formulas proposed as consequence of the octet theory. Guanidine ion is formulated in view of osmometric measurements as a H ion co.ovrddot.ordinated with a mol. of guanidine: H2N.sbd.C H2N.sbd.C.dbd.N2-H+N.sbd.H.
