K. Kűrschner

Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava

Abstract: The method is based on the detn. of MeOH formed from compds. contg. MeO groups, and, by multiplying it by 7.9, the amt. of Ca lignosulfonate is obtained (K. and Schweizpacher, C.A. 49, 12828i). Sulfite liquor is dild. to 10 times its original vol., 5 ml. is evapd. on a boiling water bath, and the dry matter is boiled 1 min. with 82% H2SO4. Then org. acids, SO2, CO2, CO, and MeOH, are distd. off, the distillate is made alk. and boiled with a few drops AgNO3, the MeOH is distd. off and detd. by oxidation with KMnO4 in alk. soln.
