The effect of time of mosaic virus infection on yield and on chemical and technological quality of sugar beet

D. Ivančenko

Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava

Abstract: Sugar beet was artificially infected by insects, with mosaic virus at one month intervals from May to August. The May infection decreased the yield of sugar beet 39-67%, the June infection 17.5-45.7%, the July infection 11.6-37.2%, and August infection 2.2-25.0%. The chem. and technological properties of juice were impaired by an increase in nonsugars, colloidal matter, reducing and N matter, and ash.
