Catalysts for vinyl chloride. IV. Reaction intermediates formed during synthesis in the presence of water

Abstract: cf. C.A. 52, 8933c. The prepn. and properties of some unknown compds. formed during the synthesis of CH₂:CHCl (I) on HgCl₂ catalysts in the presence of H₂O are described. The formula for the final compd. was found to be OHCC(HgCl)₂HgOHgC(HgCl)₂CHCl₂. Contrary to former opinions, HgCl₂ catalyzes the formation of I even if not spread on matter having a large specific surface.
