Study of organic depolarizers by oscillographic polarography with a controlled current

Abstract: Study of redn. and oxidn. processes by oscillographic polarography is still in the beginning of its development, and the aim in the org. field is to find suitable anal. methods. Interpretation of the relation dE/dt = f1(E) is difficult because some work is done under undefined conditions in unbuffered solns. and some authors fail to report the classical relation i = f(E). The differences relative to classical polarography consist mainly of pronounced capacity effects (in analogy with the Breyer tensammetry) and of effects due to electroactive products of the electrode reaction, the artefacts (in analogy with the Kalousek commutator). Both these capacity effects also exist with inorg. substances. However with org. ones, they are more pronounced and more possibilities are given for the formation of artefacts. Also the rate of polarization differs between the classical and oscillographic polarography. Some basic rules for oscillographic examns. of org. depolarizers are recommended. The systems phenylhydroxylamine-nitrosobenzene and azobenzene-hydrazobenzene are given. The redn. mechanism of azoxybenzene and nitrobenzene is suggseted. Cf. K., CA 42, 8674a; B. CA 53, 4967i.
