Spectrophotometric study of bromo-nickel complexes in the acetone

Abstract: The system [Ni(ClO4)2.6H2O]-LiBr-Me2CO and [NiBr2.6H2O]-LiBr-Me2CO was studied by spectrophotometry. The formation of mono-, di-, tri-, and tetrabromonickel (II) complexes in acetone shows absorption bands with max. at ∼425, ∼480, 495, [610], 646, 710, 700, and 750 mμ. NiBr2 is partially disproportionated in acetone soln. into NiBr3- and possibly NiBr+. With the agreement of published data on tetrahedral Ni(II) complexes, it was assumed that in the acetone soln. the tetrahedral ion NiBr42- was formed.
