Abstract: Contamination of riboflavine substrates and suppression of contaminants was studied. Twelve contaminating microorganisms, Streptococcus lactis, S. faecalis, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Spirillum volutans, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas, Leuconostoc mesenteroides, Bacillus anthracoides, Escherichia coli, and Flavobacterium aquatile, were detd. The most abundant were Streptococcus and Lactobacillus. Seven selected compds. were tested by the diffusion test against the contaminating microorganisms. Without affecting the yield of riboflavine, the 3 most effective compds. combating contamination were 5-nitro-2-furaldehyde semicarbazone, N-(5-nitrofurfurylidene)-1-aminohydantoin, and penicillin G, which can be applied alone or in mixts.
