Abstract: cf. CA 63, 15621d. Kinetics of the aquation of the thiocyanatopentaamminechromium(III) ions were studied at pH concns. 10-2 to 10-3 and at 70°. By applying heavy water in place of water, the reaction velocity was decreased 10%. For the tetrathiocyanatodianilinochromate ions (I), the observed velocity const. does not depend on pH at the range from 1.0 to 4.0. The aquation of I was studied in the mixts.: H2O-MeOH, H2O-acetone, and H2O-dioxane. The addn. of nonaq. solvents resulted in a decrease of the reaction velocity, showing the lowest value for the dioxane. The mechanism SN1 at the aquation I has a higher probability than SN2.
