Effect of sodium sulfate on the fusibility of aluminum electrolytes

Abstract: A triangular section was cut from the quaternary system Na3AlF6-AlF3-Al2O3-Na2SO4 (base on Na2SO4-Al2O3 edge and apex (2.75 NaF) AlF3). The isotherms of the liquidus were constructed on the basis of exptl. results. Addn. of 4-6 mole % Na2SO4 decreased the temp. of the primary crystn. by 8-10° of a melt with a cryolite ratio (NaF/AlF3) of 2.75. The trends of the exptl. detd. isotherms were in good agreement with those detd. by using the Schroeder-LeChatelier equation and the Temkin model, but the temps. differ.
