Abstract: The effects of some solvents and org. compds. on the relative volatility of p-xylene and m-xylene are described. The isothermal equil. of the liq.-vapor system were measured at 100°. The relative volatilities of p- and m-xylene were only slightly affected by PhCN, benzyl alc., BuOAc, Ph iso-Pr ether, HCONMe2, N-methylformamide, and Me2SO. The relative volatilities of p-xylene are compared with m-xylene in infinitely dil. solns. and at concns. of 90 mole % solvent. The consts. of the Redlich-Kister 4th-order equation for the binary solns. are given.
