Furan Derivatives. XXVIII. Synthesis and Absorption Spectra of 2-(2-Furyl)- and 2-Phenyl-3-[5-(X-phenyl)-2-furyl]acrylonitriles

Abstract: 2-(2-Furyl)-3-[5-(X-phenyl)-2-furyl]- and 2-phenyl-3-[5-(X-phenyl)-2-furyl]acrylonitriles (where X = 4-N0₂, 3-N0₂, 2-N0₂, 4-Cl, 3-Cl, 2-Cl, 4-Вr, H, 4-CH₃ and 4-OCH₃) were prepared by condensation of substituted 5-phenyl-2-furaldehydes with furylacetonitrile and phenylacetonitrile, respectively. The infrared and ultraviolet spectra of the compounds synthesized are interpreted.
