Copper(II) complexes containing organic ligands. XX. N-Salicylideneglycinatocopper(II) complexes

Abstract:  In the case of the N-salicylideneglycinato-aquacopper(II) hemihydrate (I) [Cu(salgly) (H2O)] • 0.5H2O (salgly = N-salicylideneglycinato anion) the found rhombic type of e.s.r. spectrum as well as the character of the electronic spectrum are in agreement with the known structure of this compound. By the reactions of complex (/) with molecular ligands (L) of pyridine and quinoline type, complexes of the composition Cu(salgly)L were prepared; in some cases in the form of monohydrates. The results obtained in the study of their magnetic properties, electronic and e.s.r. spectra prove these compounds to be tetragonal magnetically diluted copper(II) complexes with a trans -planar chromophore CuN2O2 completed with weak axial bonds to bipyramidal or pyramidal coordination.
