Kinetics and mechanism of redox reactions of the uranium(III) ions with monobromoacetic and monoiodoacetic acid

Abstract: The kinetics and mechanism of redox reactions of U(III) ions with monobromoacetic and monoiodoacetic acid were studied. A probable reaction mechanism is proposed and kinetic measurements obtained with all 3 monohalogen acetic acids are compared. The influence of the binary water-tert-Bu alc. mixt. on kinetic parameters of these reactions as well as the application of the Marcus relation to expressing the ratio of rate consts. of the outer-sphere reactions shows that the redn. of the halogen acetic acids by U(III) ions follows an outer-sphere mechanism.
