Comparison of redox properties of copper and cobalt Schiff base complexes

Abstract: The voltammetric method was used for studying the course of oxidn. of N,N'-ethylenebis(thioacetylacetoniminato)copper(II) complex (CuN2S2) ] and N,N'-ethylenebis(thioacetylacetoniminato)cobalt(II) complex (CoN2S2)   in a no. of nonaq. solvents at a Pt electrode. The complex CuN2S2 undergoes reversible 1-electron oxidn. in all the solvents at the almost const. potentials. The oxidn. of CoN2S2 can be described as a quasi-reversible 1-electron process, and the solvent dependence of its E1/2 values was roughly indirectly related to the donor properties of the solvents used.
