Space orientation and bonding properties of thiourea in N-salicylideneglycinatocopper(II) complex

Abstract: On the basis of structural data which are known for copper(I) and copper(II) complexes with thiourea the conditions for back donation be­tween copper(II) and thiourea have been analyzed. The back donation is considered to occur in complexes where atoms of thiourea molecule and a copper(II) atom are coplanar. Unusually short Cu—S bond length found in the [Cu(salalgly)(tu)] com­ plex is probably caused by contribution of dative  π-bond to the total bonding character.
