Reactions of saccharides catalyzed by molybdate ions. 38. NMR spectra of alditols in molybdate complexes

Abstract: The formation of complexes of 17 selected alditols with ammonium
molybdate in aqueous solutions was investigated by 1H and 13C NMR
spectroscopy. Alditols form four types of binuclear molybdate complexes in
which they serve as tetradentate donors with four vicinal hydroxyl groups.
In two types of alditol-molybdate complexes the alditol carbon chain remains in the shape close to a zig-zag arrangement. In other two types of
complexes the alditol carbon chain is forced to a sickle arrangement.
