Thermodynamic Functions of Transfer of Tetraalkylammonium Reineckates from Water to Water—Methanol and Water—t-Butyl Alcohol Mixtures

Abstract: The solubility of tetraalkylammonium diamminetetraisothiocyanato chromates(III) (alkyl = methyl, ethyl, 1-propyl, and 1-butyl) was measured in water and in water-methanol and water-t-butyl alcohol mixtures as a function of temperature and solvent composition. The results have been used to evaluate the Gibbs energy, enthalpy and entropy of transfer of the investigated salts from water to water-alcohol mixed solvents. The dependence of the thermodynamic transfer functions on concentration of organic cosolvents is discussed in terms of the cosolvent effect on the cluster structure of water.
