Abstract:

An economic and simple method is disclosed for the quantitative detection of four anti-hypertensive drugs metoprolol, carvedilol, propranolol, and losartan in human hair by using the Preyssler heteropolyacid loaded on magnetic silica nanoparticles through hollow fiber solid-phase microextraction (HF-SPME). The prepared magnetic nanoparticles are dispersed in n-octanol and immobilized onto the pores of the hollow fibers via capillary forces. Then, the adsorption medium is exposed to the sample solution. Thereafter, the extracted analyte was desorbed by using an appropriate organic solvent and detected by means of high-performance liquid chromatography diode array detector (HPLC–DAD). The nano-sized sorbent is characterized by FT-IR, EDS, VSM, XRD, TEM, and SEM. The affecting extraction variables on the efficiency of the method, such as sorbent mass, extraction volume, sample pH, stirring speed, desorption volume, extraction, and desorption time are also screened via Plackett–Burman design. Among variables, only pH of the donor phase, desorption volume, and interaction between them are found to have positive significant effects on the removal of model drugs. Hence, a central composite design (CCD) with these parameters is accomplished. The detection limit of analytes and repeatability are found to be 0.0010–0.0050 µg.mL−1 and 3.70–8.07, respectively. The correlation coefficient is estimated to vary between 0.9970 and 0.9994.
